Our pupils in Junior and Senior Infants had the opportunity to engage with some coding lessons with their teachers when Kildare Education Centre kindly allowed us to borrow some Bee Bots (Bee Robots). Our little programmers enjoyed the experience and their efforts did not go unnoticed – Kildare Education Centre have promised the Bee Bots will return so they can develop their skills further.
Bee-Bots are programmable floor robots and are an excellent way to introduce younger students to some of the basic concepts of coding. The children are able to learn directional language, commands, sequencing and problem solving. They also generally enjoy the hands on nature of the Bee-Bots and it provides opportunities for pupils to work independently and in small teams to problem solve and develop their mathematical reasoning skills.
