Chatter Books - Book Club
Chatterbooks was launched in January 2020 by Ms. O’Regan. The bookclub allows senior pupils to discuss a book together in a quiet space. We are a small group who are passionate about reading books for pleasure and enjoyment.
We come together to listen to each other, to engage with a particular book, to share our ideas and offer recommendations about a wide genre of books and to have fun too!
At our first meeting we all brought along a book that we were reading or a favourite book that we’d like to talk about and shared these books with each other. We talked about some of our favourite authors such as Michael Morpurgo, JK Rowling, David Walliams, Eoin Colfer and Roald Dahl and we shared recommendations with each other.
Ms O’ Regan signed up to Naas Library to obtain a block loan of suitable books for our group to read. The first book we read and discussed together was ‘Journey to the Sea’ by Eva Ibbotson.

For our next reading adventure together, we were in the process of choosing a selection of suitable books in English and as Gaeilge to engage with from the KPMG Children’s Book Ireland Junior Juries’ scheme shortlist recently published on 9th March.
Chatterbooks were due to take part in the 2020 KPMG Children’s Book Ireland Junior Juries’s Scheme in March. The Junior Juries’ scheme enables young readers to read widely and to engage with reading in an innovative and exciting way. A selection of this year’s shortlisted books are attached.
In April we were told that our school had also been selected by Children’s Book Ireland for an author visit but unfortunately this can’t take place now.
New members are always welcome to join Chatterbooks at any time during the school year. We look forward to meeting up again soon and exploring the wonderful world of books together.
