The Primary Language Curriculum places emphasis on recognising the importance of explicitly teaching oral language and increasing pupil awareness of the range of language uses and how our use of language changes depending on what we are using it for. This year, we linked the teaching of oral Gaeilge to the use of language for broadcasting. Pupils across the school had the opportunity to use the intercom to ‘broadcast’ as Gaeilge both within the school and to our neighbours and friends in proximity to the school. Pronunciation, volume, fluency and presentation language skills were targeted concurrently with personal self-esteem and confidence. It was a great success – with many savouring their time at the microphone!!!
