Allen National School Parent Teacher Association
The aim of Allen National School Parent-Teacher Association is to enable parents to play their part in ensuring provision of the best possible education for their children. This is achieved through the PTA’s programme of activities. The Parent-Teacher Association will promote the interests of the students in partnership with the Board of Management, Principal, Teachers and Students in accordance with the provisions of the Education Act, 1998.
Examples of Partnership:
· Information sharing about school and about education
· Information for parents about helping their own child
· School policy and planning
· Ongoing contact between parents, the principal and BOM
· Networking among parents
· Extracurricular activities for children
· Affirming the work of the teachers
The parent-teacher association plays a key and crucial role in promoting partnership in all of these areas.
Role of PTA:
Organise events to promote the involvement of parents and support students, parents and school staff. Events such as the annual Halloween Party and Easter Raffle help to raise funds for additional educational aids as requested by the school.
It is a communication forum for the Board of Management and parents.
The PTA is a member of the National Parents Council Primary (www.npc.ie).
Meet every 4-6 weeks to organise fundraising & social events, communicate with the Board of Management and teachers and discuss other issues of interest to the parents & teachers.

The P.T.A have been actively fundraising throughout this school year and are happy to announce that our fundraising target of €4000 has been reached.
The money raised will allow the school to install fencing and basketball court markings & other painted features i.e. hop scotch, etc.
The expectation is that the school will have the new fencing and yard markings in place before the new school term starts in September.
The P.T.A facilitated two National Parent Council talks during the year such as ‘Supporting Children’s Mental Health & Wellbeing’ and ‘Anti Bullying’. These talks were received very positively by parents. The NPC exists to ensure parents are supported & empowered to become effective partners in their children’s education. In association with Lenrec Ltd, the P.T.A have facilitated Clothing Recycle Collections, raising €483 to date. Our collection on 13th June weighted in at 1020kg, our highest weight yet! Thank you to all who donated. This weight will bring up our total fundraising amount considerably. We will keep you posted on the amount.
The P.T.A have setup a Facebook page for parents of Allen N.S. to keep up to date on school & P.T.A activity. Request to join: Allen National School P.T.A
Every year a member of the P.T.A co-ordinates the Allen School Book Rental Scheme. This scheme is available to pupils from 3rd to 6th class only. It is great way to save on book costs.
For the first time, the P.T.A facilitated an Allen School Uniform Recycle Initiative, to support parents regarding school uniform costs. A nominal charge was applied to items and the event was an overwhelming success. It is our hope that we can make this a annual event.
Two buddy benches are permanently located in the junior yard for children to use as needed. A buddy bench is a visual aid to help promote kindness, empathy and compassion in the school yard. The P.T.A plan to supply a ‘Buddy Bench’ in the senior yard also.
The P.T.A held their annual Easter raffle, which raised €1891.05. Thank you to those who donated raffle prizes. All funds raised support school activities.
The PTA provided refreshments to family and friends of the school, after the Christmas Carol Service. A lovely evening was had by all. Donations on the night raised €53 and go directly towards the school.
The Halloween party was another successful event. Funds raised from door entry and shop takings were €277. All funds go directly towards the school.
The P.T.A organised a ‘Surprise’ for the pupils of Allen school, by providing an ice cream van at the school’s sports day. The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed their treat.
We hope all pupils enjoy their upcoming school tours and that all families enjoy the Summer Holidays J
Our next P.T.A meeting will be held on Wednesday 30th August at 8pm in Allen N.S.
